A PERMENANT SMILE SOLUTION

Dental implants are a revolutionary restorative solution for our patients who have missing teeth. Unlike traditional treatments like dentures or bridges, dental implants offer a permanent and anatomical design that mirrors natural teeth. When integrated with your supporting bone, implants are extremely durable and allow you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

HOW DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK

At their core, dental implants consist of three essential components:

  • The Implant: This is a titanium body that is placed into your bone through a minimally invasive procedure. In most cases. Titanium is a biocompatible structure that encourages your surrounding bone cells to fuse with its surface, creating a durable and permanent base for your replacement tooth.

  • The Abutment: Once your implant has integrated with the bone, a small abutment (connector) is attached to the top of it. The abutment serves as a base to support your final restoration.

  • Implant Restoration: The final step of implant treatment involves attaching a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture to the abutment. This restoration is crafted to match the color, size, and shape of your natural smile, ensuring a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing result.

ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants offer numerous advantages, including:

  • Adaptability: Single implants can be used to replace individual teeth or paired together to support a multi-tooth bridge. As few as four implants can be used to permanently anchor a full-arch hybrid denture.
  • Longevity: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
  • Natural Appearance: They look and feel like your natural teeth.
  • Improved Speech and Chewing: The permanent fit of implants eliminates bulky appliances or the risk of something slipping out of place.
  • Preserve Facial Structures: Implants stimulate skeletal health, preventing bone loss and premature aging (which are common with missing teeth.)
  • Enhanced Comfort: Implants are non-invasive to other teeth and fit in line with your smile, so you never have to worry about irritating appliances or damage to your surrounding smile.
  • Easy Maintenance: Care for implants the same as you would your natural teeth, with brushing, flossing, and regular checkups.

THE DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCEDURE AT BALLPARK HEIGHTS FAMILY DENTAL

At Ballpark Heights Family Dental, Dr. Scott McPherson and our experienced team of dental professionals are dedicated to ensuring your dental implant procedure is a comfortable and successful experience. The entire process begins with a thorough examination and evaluation of your supporting bone structures. During this appointment, Dr. McPherson will evaluate your tissue and bone health, take X-rays or a 3D scan, and discuss your goals and concerns. This information helps us create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

When you’re ready to begin treatment, we’ll plan for your surgical date. This minimally invasive procedure is typically performed with local anesthetic. We will take special steps to ensure you are comfortable throughout the entire visit. Once your gum tissue is numb, we create a small opening, and the implant is precisely positioned into the bone.

Following your procedure, a healing period is necessary to allow the implant to fuse with the jawbone. This process, known as osseointegration, ensures the stability and strength of the implant. When osseointegration is complete, the abutment and fixed restoration are installed.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT

Regular checkups and good oral hygiene habits are essential to maintain your dental implants. The key is to clean them regularly and keep the supporting gum and bone tissues as healthy as possible. Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings are needed; if special cleaning aids are recommended (such as floss threaders or water flossers,) we will review those with you.
